Editorial Terms and Conditions

Louise Maskill (the editor) is responsible for:

  • providing editing and/or proofreading services as agreed with the client
  • providing high-quality work with no guarantee of perfection
  • safe (password-protected) storage of all materials during the project and for at least 12 months after completion
  • tracking all editorial changes and suggestions
  • communicating with the client throughout the project
  • delivering a finished product by the agreed-upon deadline

The client is responsible for:

  • fact-checking all materials provided to the editor
  • obtaining necessary permissions to use or reference others’ work
  • supplying clear information about any and all particular requirements for the editorial work (e.g. style guides)
  • providing all materials to the editor in good time for the commencement of the project according to the agreed-upon schedule
  • accepting or rejecting any or all editorial changes and suggestions
  • maintaining backup copies of all materials, pre- and post-editing
  • paying all invoices upon receipt

Large projects may require payment to be made by instalment throughout the project (to be agreed in writing at the outset). Cancellations by the client after a project begins will be subject to partial payment based on the amount of work completed.

Responses to any queries received within 7 days of the invoice date are included in the agreed payment. Queries received after this time will be billed at the same hourly rate as the project.

Louise Maskill reserves the right to refuse service or amend project terms for any reason, including but not limited to:

  • offensive, discriminatory, graphic or sensitive content
  • plagiarised content
  • late arrival of project materials
  • incomplete project materials
  • project materials not matching the client’s description
